Mission
The mission of Project Disha, Bharat is to empower, inspire, and equip young individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to navigate ever-evolving career opportunities. We strive to encourage curiosity, ignite passion, and foster a sense of purpose in students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Through professional 1-on-1 mentorship, experiential learning, and exposure to a wide range of professions, our mission is to help students explore their interests, and make informed decisions about their future paths.
Our Story
Project Disha, Bharat began with Kahani Time, an initiative where Disha and Anya shared stories infused with valuable life lessons with the students at Asha for Education. In one of the sessions, Disha, a chartered accountant, taught the 7th-grade students the art of managing household expenses and the importance of bookkeeping. The children were inspired to apply the new skills they learned at their homes. Intrigued by the students' eagerness, the pair decided to take things a step further. Disha reached out to Payal, a chartered accountant working at Unilever, and asked her to share her career journey. As she narrated her experiences in the corporate world, the children's curiosity deepened. They were eager to learn what her salary was and how they could earn similar incomes someday. Through this experience, it became clear that students like those at Asha for Education could greatly benefit from exposure to various careers as they certainly have the potential. We realised that introducing teenagers, specifically those in grades 9 to 12, to a diverse range of career options, will ignite their ambitions and help open doors to a world of possibilities

My time with Asha for Education, a nonprofit school for underprivileged children, sparked the idea for Project Disha. I discovered my love for empowering young minds through activities I conducted at the Powai branch such as yoga, storytelling (Kahani Time), and teaching maths.

With over six years of experience in schools run by NGOs, I've witnessed the incredible growth of students in areas ranging from Yoga to Robotics. However, I've also observed a common struggle: the absence of guidance post their schooling years. Project Disha is my response—a guiding initiative designed to empower these students as they set out into the world.

Seeing my daughter and niece work on such a worthy endeavour inspired me to support it and put it forward as best as I can. The driving force behind my passion for this project is rooted in my profound love for children, coupled with the enthusiasm to engage with my family in a meaningful social initiative.
